For the whole of January, leading Voice-over-Internet Protocol provider Vonage will give US$ 100 mail-in rebates on the purchase of any Vonage-certified VoIP phone unit. Yes, you heard that right, even with a purchase of a phone worth less than US$ 100, you will still get a hundred bucks off—say, you pick up a Netgear VoWiFi phone for US$ 40; with the rebate, you get US$ 60 net. It’s like going to the store to buy a phone, and you end up getting paid by the company for your purchase.
Sounds like a fluke? Well, it isn’t, according to Vonage’s senior vice president for sales, Mr Matthew Deatrick. The promo is well thought-of, and is intended to attract more people into using VoIP. You actually have to pay for Vonage service (if not already a user), in order to claim the rebate so you that will set you back another US$ 25 max. But with a US$ 40 phone purchase and a month’s subscription, that still nets you US$ 35! I think it’s well worth it.
Vonage is the largest VoIP provider in America, with upwards of 1.2 million customers to date. The company says it expects a 20% rise in user base as a result of the rebate promotion. Getting your phone and first month subscription free, with change to boot, is a great way to get started on VoIP.
