T-Mobile Bobsled extended to Android, iPhone, and Browser

We all know about the famous Bobsled VoIP app that offers you chatting through Facebook, introduced earlier this year in April 2011. Now, T-Mobile has further expanded that idea to be incorporated in the android, iPhone, and browser. The expansion would also surprisingly yet pleasantly include iPad and iPad touch too. Announcing new apps is just part of the overall offering which also includes free calls mobile and landline in the US, Puerto Rico, and Canada. This will bring a significant upgrade to the Bobsled VoIP app that now only connects you with just your Facebook contacts.

Making free calls makes it mandatory to log into the browser interface. However, you should not confuse the free calls once you are using the apps announced. These apps will only allow you to make free calls from Bobsled to Bobsled VoIP service. You can also use this app to record a voice call and pin it with your Facebook contact’s wall. Why T-Mobile sort to this kind of app introduction and what does it want to achieve from it?

Fighting the VoIP industry competition

VoIP industry is growing but the competition has become gruesome. Big VoIP players like Google and Skype have started lowering their rates to dramatically lower levels. Law has also been on the side of big VoIP companies as we yesterday talked about Microsoft Skype Buyout approval by European Commission Skype . T-Mobile thinks that introducing such apps will help fight the lower rates by these major internet phone service providers.

The Free VoIP label

All over the world VoIP providers are using the Free VoIP services label to attract customers. However when you read the fine print, you are able to know the number of conditions attached to that free VoIP usage. This is one other leverage that T-Mobile wants to gain with its free service through the app.

T-Mobile Bobsled will definitely help it become more competitive and able to survive the battle of low calling rates in VoIP industry.

Bobsled, I have heard of that but never used that. I wish I knew about it earlier, will definitely look forward to install it and make free voip calls. Thanks

Yea, you are right, there are many companies who just advertise free voip calls only to attract more traffic. There isn’t anything worthwhile in their service and the free voip comes with lots of conditions.

No matter what you say, I do not agree to you. At least t-mobile is offering something free, instead of praising it, you are just condemning it for no good reason.

  • Miller Fold

I agree with you, at least t-mobile is offering something free and many people use facebook, which would make life really easy for them in terms of using this service.

As a VoIP service writer I understand this industry and that is why I would say that this has been a smart move by T-Mobile to survive competition from Google and Skype. There wasn’t any other way to survive this.

I hardly think this would make any difference. I am rarely impressed by the VoIP service that T-mobile already provides and if they go wireless only God knows how pathetic their service can really become. I would suggest you to go for Verizon.

I have used t-mobile and they have never been short of disappointment. I wonder what they will be up to this time. Any who used it please share your experience below.
