First Middle East telco launches double play service

ordan Telecom recently announced that it has successfully its commercial VOIPoDSL service called Livebox. This new project will provide the company’s residential DSL customers affordable, high quality double play (voice and data) service.

Alcatel, as part of its partnership with Jordan Telecom, integrated and deployed the solution within the timetable set for the project. It was also responsible for the systems integration for the project. This includes the Netcentrex application components.

Jordan Telecom chose to partner with Alcatel because it believes that in order to maintain a strong competitive edge and provide high quality services, it should have the support of a world-class supplier with a proven leadership position in the area of VoIP.

Jordan Telecom is the first telecoms operator in the Middle East to commercially launch a double play service over broadband. It is the company’s future plans to eventually launch a triple play (voice, data, and video) service in order to keep abreast with developments in Europe and in the United States. The overall quality of the services that will be offered by Jordan Telecom promises to be significantly higher than those available service offerings that are currently available on the internet.

The system being employed by Jordan Telecom will use technologies developed by Netcentrex, most especially is market leading VoIP and triple play-ready application server called MyCall. This product was used in conjunction with Alcatel’s solution to enable the final rollout of the Livebox product.

A VoIP service in the middle east is highly welcome because of the large concentration of expatriates living and working in the area. The service would now give these people a more affordable alternative to calling their families, loved ones and children.
