Imagine going on an extended business trip out of the country and having to keep in touch with all your interests back home. I am sure that one big concern of yours right now is just how much it would cost you to make all those overseas telephone calls. True enough, you can write them off as business expenses yet hundreds or dollars – or even thousands – is something that you just wouldn’t want to spend on phone calls, would you?
Well let me share an experience that I had several months back. I went to Curacao on business – I have several offshore interests there – and I ended up staying a little bit longer than I intended. Fortunately for me, I had my Skype WiFi handset with me. I had to make countless phone calls to different parts of the world and guess how much it cost me to do so? For most of the phone calls, it was less than a dollar per minute! So how did this happen?
For those who are not familiar with Skype, it is a computer application much like Yahoo Messenger and its other messaging cousins. Skype makes use of Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) to allow its users to make calls to any phone (land based or cellular) from the computer. Because of the technology involved, the costs associated even with long distance calls are lessened to a very affordable amount.
Taking things one step further, Skype ventured into actual handsets, which are similar to cellular phones. The big difference is that these phones operate on WiFi. As such, you can enjoy the benefits of Skype calls wherever you go, as long as there is a WiFi signal.
For the benefit of those who are not very familiar with WiFi, it is a technology used to refer to any wireless operations using the 802.11 network. To avoid being too technical, it simply means being able to communicate wirelessly through this network. WiFi is being used widely all over the world and anyone with a WiFi enabled device can connect as long as there is a signal in the vicinity.

So, if you have a WiFi enabled Skype handset, you can call any phone anywhere in the world as long as you have a WiFi signal. Curacao is the perfect place to have a Skype handset as the WiFi network across the territory is very reliable. WiFi hotspots (areas which have WiFi signals) are scattered all over the place. From the airport to hotels to coffee shops, and even beaches, you can have access to WiFi.
Imagine this scenario. You wake up in the morning and wish to have a nice cup of coffee while relaxing at the beach. You need to make and receive some calls and you do not wish to be disturbed by having to go out to make and receive those calls. As long as you have a Skype handset, you can do all these without having to leave your comfortable spot. You can even be having coffee at your favorite coffee shop downtown and do the same things – all for a very low price! That is the convenience and ease that Skype handsets offer you while in Curacao.

Skype, the leading Internet communications company, today announced that Toshiba’s Digital Products Division will market the Skype™ Internet communication software on the company’s notebook computers, including the Satellite®, Tecra®, Portégé® and Qosmio® product lines. These new Toshiba notebooks featuring Skype will be available starting June 26, 2007 through both retail and online channels in the U.S., including Toshiba’s online store (www.toshibadirect.com).
The addition of Skype on select Toshiba notebook computers with built-in webcams and microphones creates an all-in-one internet communications solution for customers. Initially, Toshiba notebooks featuring webcams will include select configurations of the Satellite A215, Satellite X205, Tecra M8 and Qosmio F45 series. Customers will be able to see the branded offering with a Skype logo found adjacent to the units’ built-in webcam. In addition, customers will be able to access a Skype icon available on the desktop to quickly and easily download the latest Skype client software from a co-branded Skype and Toshiba landing page.

Jeff Barney, vice president of marketing, Digital Products Division, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. said, “Toshiba is dedicated to offering innovative notebook computers which provide users with the right balance of functionality and performance to enhance its customers overall mobile computing experience. Toshiba is confident users will appreciate the ability to connect with families, friends and colleagues across the world via Skype’s unique Internet communication tool.”
This marketing agreement with one of the nation’s leading notebook computer vendors, further builds on Skype’s momentum and reach to U.S. consumers. Last month, Skype announced plans to sell Skype Certified devices and accessories and pre-paid cards for Skype in 1,800 Wal-Mart stores throughout the country.
“Skype is always looking for meaningful ways to extend its reach in the marketplace and we believe this relationship will make it easier for the millions of Toshiba notebook users in the U.S. to experience the benefits of Skype Internet calling,” said Don Albert, vice president and general manager of Skype North America. “Teaming up with Toshiba will directly present Skype’s offerings to more potential users and will provide an ideal communications PC solution for them to stay in touch with their friends, family and business colleagues from home, in the office or on the go.”
Skype’s free software makes it possible for anyone with an internet connection to take advantage of its rich features and make free, high quality voice and video calls, to send instant messages or share files over the internet and to conduct conference calls (up to 10 people) and public chats (up to 150 people). Skype also offers low-cost products which include an annual subscription unlimited calling plan within the U.S. and Canada for $29.95, international calling to landlines and cell phones for pennies a minute, call-forwarding, Skype Voicemail and more.

Voip is certainly making a name for itself around the world.Voip or Voice over Internet Protocol is simply a way of chatting with someone on the phone through an IP-based network.Seeing that there is Verizon, which is a very popular telephone company, Voip might have a ways to go before they beat out Verizon, but there are certainly many reasons why people should transfer over to a Voip related service.Evolving into the wonderful world of cordless phones, Voip is starting to make handsets for people to carry around, which are also more portable.Instead of using your standard phone company, you will use an internet based phone that actually uses the internet to process your phone calls. The idea is marvelous and the theory is great, many people find it very easy to use, and you could just add the bill to your monthly internet bill.Skype, which is a very popular messenger program, is included on this particular handset.
The Linksys CIT200, which is a couple of years old, is one of the more popular ones that people have. The system software is PC related, which allows it to run Skype; it also allows you to connect your phone to your computer via a USB cable. You can actually make phone calls from your PC if you’d like. The CIT200 is currently only supported by Windows, which is a shame, because many people do own a Mac related computer, as do Linux users.A few things to note about the CIT200 is that it supports call waiting, has a built-in speakerphone, can hold up to 120 hours of standby time and 10 hours of talk time, and more. While there are many more phones that are a bit more stylish, this is considered new technology and it will take some time before they are the “next” best thing.

Uniden, which is a decently popular company, produces the TRU8860 5.8 GHZ Cordless Handset. It is a very stylish cordless phone that is similar in looks to a regular cordless phone, except with more jazz in its looks.A few things you can look for in this phone is that it’s a 5.8 digital expandable system, has the ability to access 3-way conferencing with other Voip related handsets, ability to transfer your information that is saved inside of your handset to another handset, etc.The TRU8860 is wall mountable and also includes 2 belt clips so you can carry around the phone. All in all, this is a nice addition to anyone’s home assuming that you have Voip service.

There is still plenty of time before we really see Voip starting to overtake the other phone services, but they have definitely made a name for themselves, especially with all of the commercials we see every day.Vonage is one of the more popular services.

Skype, built by the users of Kazaa, lets you make VoIP calls via your broadband connections to other computers running Skype. You may call people’s cell phones also, but extra charges may apply to that. What disappoints many Skype users is the fact that they charge their users a fee annually to use their unlimited\pro service.According to Skype’s website, they allow a user who purchases the $29.95 package unlimited nationwide calling, which if calculated is less than $3.00 per month. This deal is great, but seeing that you are allowed to call any computer for free, they could have allowed us to call any phone for free.Since users in the USA or Canada don’t have to worry about paying a charge, even if they are calling a cell or land-lined phone, they still have to pay a minor charge overseas.

International calls are as low as 2.1 cents per minute, which isn’t naturally bad, but this is very limited to wherever you are calling. There are plenty of places where the price drastically goes up.As a matter of fact, the 2.1 cent charge is to around 30 different places. Since the rates differ per destination, you can use a calling card, or you could purchase Skype credit, which is very popular using this software.
One thing I was very happy about was the sound quality. I really enjoy the fact that it doesn’t matter whether or not you have the regular version of Skype or the premium version. The Pro version of Skype is definitely worth the price, especially if you use your computer for business calls and such. If you only use Skype for computer-to-computer chatting then don’t worry about the pro version, but the price is worth it. It had to be obvious that Skype would charge a fee for another version of their software.

Finally, a very nice feature that Skype has to offer is their call forwarding option. What is really nice about this is that you are basically allowed to choose which calls you want to pay for when forwarding them along. If you aren’t at your computer at the moment, you may turn on call forwarding and the calls will be directed to either an ordinary land-line phone or cell-phone. The recommended way to pay for the call forwarding service would probably be using the Skype credit, but you may choose however you want.

Skype is a great program with a plethora of rates. Depending on where you are calling really makes THAT much of a difference. The program isn’t expensive, especially if you decide to call only someone’s computer. If you aren’t interested in using the voice chat on Skype, you can instant message someone using the text based chat. Whichever way you are interested in is totally up to you.

Skype really means business this time as it comes out with several amazing products worth using. Mac users, in particular, are very lucky as Skype Technologies is committed to give them great hardware and software for a truly unique and convenient internet experience. Skype Mac users are increasing the reason why Skype came out with an improved version of its Mac plan. Mac users are naturally rejoicing.
If you’re a user of Skype for Mac OS, then good for you. Why? It’s because you get the chance to avail of an attractive add-on which is the Skype Widget. The Skype Widget has a handy interface if users want to make calls, search for international calling codes and check the global calling rates of Skype. Calls can be made to any part of the world making Skype a technology to beat.
Key features
Skype Widget is a dashboard widget that allows users to dial calls, look up country codes and find out about calling rates. Released on September 8, 2005, This freeware that appears as a white colored S logo in yellow green background works by using peer-to-peer technology for transmission of data. In other words, there is no longer a central server to act as a middle manager. With this software, it’s now possible to chat with up to 50 people all at the same time. There’s even no need to type the names of your contacts as you can just drag and drop contacts whenever you want to add someone to your chats and calls. It’s that easy.

Also, you will be informed of any new events and see an overview of the services available. New animated emoticons are provided which you can even play with. Plus you get the necessary support for enhanced notifications with Growl.
Mac users are guaranteed that Skype Widget 1.0.2 is 100 percent free from spyware, viruses, Trojans and backdoors as well as other forms of malware. After thorough testing by Softpedia, it was found that Skype Widget was clean and that it can be installed safely. Softpedia gave this 56 KB Skype Widget freeware a very good rating. It is compatible with the Mac OS X 10.4 version or later.
To use Skype Widget, you need a Mac OS X 10.4 or higher such as the Tiger and to be able to make a call, Skype must be installed. After downloading the widget, you simply pack it out and double click on the .wdgt file. Dashboard will then open and ask you if you want to install the widget. However, if you have a Mac version of Tiger below 10.4.2, Safari will install the widget without questions. You can then open it in the Dashboard and use it.
In making a call, all you have to do is type a phone number just like using a traditional telephone or a Skype name, select the country of destination, then click the phone button and you will eventually be connected. Click on the logo to show the dialing instructions. There’s one thing you should not forget, though. Buy some credit first before you make the call.
Loyal Mac users will surely agree that calling through Skype is definitely an amazing experience. Calls are of high audio quality and with less network congestion. The best part is that calls to other Skype users anywhere in the world are free of local and long distance charges. Calls to landline and mobile phones are charged at very affordable rates thereby making communication with family, close friends and business colleagues fast and convenient. So with Skype widget on your dashboard, you can already make a call with just a few clicks.
In case you encounter problems downloading or using the Skype widget, you can always seek the help of Skype at its website (www.skype.com). Skype will find answers to all your queries and problems whether you’re just a new or long-time user. Skype’s site also has specific help pages you can use.
Favorite widgets
Widgets are interface elements in technical terms or simply any icon that internet users manipulate to perform certain tasks online or on the computer. They are also known as virtual buttons that can be clicked by using a mouse cursor. The Dashboard, meanwhile, was created by Apple as an interesting feature of its Mac OS X Tiger operating system. The Dashboard utilizes widgets to display useful information in a small package on your desktop.
If in case a widget on your Dashboard is troublesome after installation, you can easily delete it. Just look for that widget in your widgets folder inside the library folder, drag it to the trash and select “secure empty trash” under the “finder” menu.
There is actually a wide variety of dashboard widgets to choose from under different categories from blogs, business, games and messaging to movies, television, music, news, sports, transportation and travel. These widgets work on Mac OS X. Mac’s website, notably the widgets section, cites the Top 50 dashboard widgets that include virtual games. Although not all may be useful to each Skype subscriber, there are several interesting widgets worth trying out.
Bluetooth Texter can connect to a Bluetooth phone and can be used to send instant messages.
The Weather Channel Mac Widget 1.0 provides all information concerning weather.
Gas 3.0 gives information on the best gas deal in town so you won’t have much for your gasoline needs.
Starry Night Widget 1.1 allows users to see the planets and constellations up in the sky for any location on earth.
Wikipedia 0.9 lets you search for and read articles from the online wiki encyclopedia.
GuitarChords 1.6.1 is for the music-minded eager to learn how to play the guitar. You can select a note and type of chord and the widget will display how to strum that chord on the guitar.

Have you ever wished that voice calls from the computer to a landline would eventually be free? Most internet users are guilty of this. But then, wish no more because what you are asking for is now a reality, at least for certain countries for now.

Skype’s All-In-One Pro package is the answer to your wish. Lucky for those web users in countries where Skype is now available. For those in countries without Skype yet, just be patient because will eventually get there. Who knows, it will already be there when you least expect it.

About the package

Anyhow, the Skype Pro is a new bundled package that offers zero cents per minute rate for calls to domestic landlines. It is actually a premium subscription package for SkypeOut that lets users call from their Skype softphone to landline and mobile phones around the world. It has wonderful features and it also gives discounts on Skype-certified hardware. The bundling of services is a great and convenient way to let consumers enjoy various perks not previously experienced with the one-by-one marketing strategy.

With Skype Pro, subscribers can still enjoy the free features Skype is known for. Voice and video calls, instant messages, file transfer, conference calls involving up to ten people and participation in Skypecasts or live moderated conversations involving up to 100 people can be made between Skype users with no charges whatsoever.

Skype Pro also allows users to call landlines and mobile phones worldwide at very low rates. Just imagine this, you get to avail of its zero per minute call, free voicemail, great discounts on Skypein numbers, affordably priced Skype accessories plus five euros of Skype credit for those who will subscribe for five months. Additional discounts can be had on several Skype Extras like desktop sharing, avatars, emoticons and ringtones. The monthly subscription rate to Skype Pro is very low at only two Euros.

During its initial launch in late 2006, Skype Pro was available only in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Portugal, Spain and the U.K. Hopefully this 2007, other countries outside Europe will be able to enjoy Skype’s services.

Unmatched features

Unlike the other software of the same kind, Skype’s Pro package is truly unique even though it may vary from region to region. Let’s see what gives Skype the edge over its closest rivals such as Google, Yahoo!, DSL and cable.

First, it lets subscribers make free calls to other Skype users from around the globe with high audio quality. Second, it allows users to make calls from PC to landline or mobile phones at super low rates and with only a small connection fee required. Third, Skype’s pricing structure is unbeatable because it gives real value for your money. The Skype Pro or the premium subscription package, for instance, offers more perks at a lower price. Subscribers get the chance to purchase additional Skype paid for products at a lesser price. This package also takes away the per-minute charges for Skypeout calls to domestic landlines. And what’s more, the global dialing rate to certain countries is cut by up to 65 percent.

The price of the Skype Pro all-in-one package is very reasonable at a mere two Euros per month. Whenever you make a call, you only pay a flat rate of 3.9 Euro cents as connection regardless of how long your call will take. There is, however, a fair-use policy that puts a limit to call time per month at three thousand minutes or 50 hours.

So come to think about it, it’s an advantage for frequent Skype users to choose the fixed-rate subscription instead of paying per call because of the great savings they can make. For those calling abroad, Skype’s PC-to-landline/mobile phone calls are well discounted. This Skype Pro package, therefore, is highly recommended for heavy Skype users notably those who use the service to call landlines in the U.K.

Installation is not such a big problem here as well. Skype allows for quick and easy installation because interested subscribers won’t have to answer a long list of questions to be registered. Once a user is logged in, he or she can already begin adding contacts to his list.

Good performance

With Skype’s one-of-a-kind premium package, it would be no surprise if the number of people using the standard telephone will diminish in the coming years. Most people today own computers at home and in the office so why not make full use of the PC’s capabilities?

Skype Pro remains to be of excellent quality as the software and settings are still the same. The clear audio line at 128 kbps is attributed to Skype’s Peer to Peer technologies that send the data. Calls are also not limited to just Mac users but also Windows, Linux, Pocket PC and OSX. Audio conferencing or the simultaneous chatting of up to five people is even possible for Windows and Linux users. If you want to test its performance, you can download the software and try the free service. Many users will attest that the call quality is superior much like that of a landline but for a lesser rate.

If you’re using a broadband internet connection or a better line, you won’t really miss your traditional telephone due to the clear audio communication. You won’t even notice a lag, if any. Security and privacy are likewise ensured. No more unsolicited messages as all communications – voice, instant messages and files – are encrypted using AES. If you also want to block annoying users, you can do so with just two clicks.

This premium package is very simple and easy to use because there’s no change to the software. For heavy users who make, for instance, four 30-minute calls to U.K. landlines every month, the Skype Pro is very ideal with or without the voicemail service. The five-month package rate of 9.20 pounds already provides great savings.

Communicating with people across the globe has never been this easy. Instead of accumulating huge phone bills keeping in touch with friends and family abroad, why not swap to Skype Pro and enjoy longer hours of free and lower rate calls. With Skype’s affordable package, who else would want any other internet telephony system? This is the thing to use now and not later.

Skype and Skype watchers have been saying for some time now that a surprising proportion of the low-or-no-cost VoIP service’s customers are using it for business. This is probably truer in Europe and the Far East where phone companies often charge for local calls, and long distance typically costs more than it does in North America. But the idea of using Skype for business is evidently starting to catch on here as well.
Robert Lane and his far-flung partners at RNC Services, a small Web development and e-commerce solutions firm, may be the thin end of the wedge. The company is nominally headquartered in northern Maine where Lane lives. It also has six employees there, but it’s really a virtual company. One of Lane’s partners is in Florida, the other in Sacramento, Calif. And Lane is talking about relocating to the Caribbean for six months and running his business from there.
RNC is probably typical of businesses using Skype in that its partners and employees are all heavily computer-centric. If you ask Lane what it is he likes about Skype, besides the cost savings, he says, “It’s just the convenience of having it on my computer. It’s nice especially when you’re in an airport—you can plug the headset in and start taking calls.”
RNC switched to Skype for most of its internal and external calling at the beginning of this year. The partners make about 60 percent to 70 percent of all calls on Skype now. Call quality and reliability have for the most part been acceptable. Lane uses a $25 USB headset from Plantronics. “I can probably think of about half a dozen times when we dropped calls or couldn’t carry on an intelligible conversation on Skype,” Lane says. “And most of those times, it was because we lost the Internet or power.”

Because of the nature of the business, RNC has a 3 Mbps business DSL service, which may be a more reliable conduit than slower residential services, Lane says. “You might sometimes have problems with Skype on a cable modem service at 256 or 500 Kbps.” He often encounters problems trying to use Skype in hotels. He speculates this is either because the hotel’s so-called broadband service is in fact only 256 or 500 Kbps, or there is a lot of contention for bandwidth from other guests — or both. But he also, like his partners, carries a cell phone, so he’s rarely without phone service.
The switch to Skype was part of a larger overhaul of RNC’s telecommunications systems. The firm had been using several conventional business lines from Verizon with Verizon-provided trunking services. It switched this year to using a virtual PBX service from RingCentral, Inc. The main motive was economy. With line, trunking and long distance charges, the company was paying Verizon about $180 a month for telephone service — too much, the partners thought, for such a small company.
RingCentral provides a single toll-free number for incoming calls. Configurable auto attendant and find-me-follow-me features let users program the system to forward incoming calls to an appropriate virtual extension — typically an existing business or residential line, cell phone or Vonage-style VoIP line. RingCentral also includes a bucket of minutes for forwarded calls, 500 a month with the service RNC chose.
The RNC partners bought SkypeIn phone numbers so they could receive calls forwarded from RingCentral on their computers. They also, of course, wanted to save money. SkypeIn gives users a PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) phone number that callers on regular phones can dial to reach them on their computers. Skype switches SkypeIn calls from the PSTN to the Internet and delivers them to users’ computers as it would any PC-to-PC Skype call. Each SkypeIn phone number costs $13 for three months or $38 for the year, or about $3.25 or $4.30 a month.
You can choose a number from any of 14 countries, including the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Australia, and China. U.S. numbers are available now from 244 area codes. Lane ended up getting a Las Vegas number, but it doesn’t really matter, he says, because it’s only used to route RingCentral calls to Skype. When the partners talk to each other over Skype, they place calls PC to PC using the Skype software.
RNC’s RingCentral auto attendant gives callers options such as ‘press one for sales, press two for service.’ If the caller presses one, he may be routed to Lane or one of his partners, depending on time of day or day of week. If the call is routed to Lane, it will first try his SkypeIn number. If he doesn’t answer on Skype, it will try his cell phone, and then his home phone.
RingCentral also provides Call Controller software that Lane can use to reroute a call in real time. When a RingCentral call comes in, a message pops up on his laptop screen with the caller’s name and number and four options: accept the call, reject it, send it directly to voice mail, or reply. When he clicks the accept option, a drop-down list lets him choose the number to which RingCentral forwards the call. This comes in handy if he finds himself in a hotel where Skype doesn’t work well. He can simply reroute the call to his cell phone.
RNC also uses SkypeOut for long distance calls. This is the Skype service that allows users to call a PSTN line from their computer. It costs €0.017 per minute to call anywhere in North America, western Europe, Australia, New Zealand or parts of southeast Asia and South America. Calls to other regions are priced individually but rarely cost more than a few cents. RNC spends bout $3 or $4 a month on SkypeOut calls, Lane says.
“I like to use SkypeOut when I’m working at home so I don’t tie up the phone for the kids,” he says. “And it’s a lot cheaper than having another phone line.”
RNC has halved its phone bill since switching to RingCentral and Skype, but a good part of the saving is attributable to RingCentral. The firm saves about $30 to $40 a month by using Skype, Lane estimates.
Is it worth the downside risks? Lane doesn’t see much in the way of downsides. He considers using his computer as a phone to be a benefit. And for a small Web-centric firm like RNC, dealing for the most part with tech-savvy clients, the occasional flaky call is probably not a big deal. If you’re a realtor or stockbroker, it may be a different matter. While we don’t see mass adoption of Skype for business anytime soon, there are probably many more small outfits that could benefit from using it.

Not everything in life is free. But experience would tell us that some of the best things in life are still free even up to this day when technology continues to advance at a faster pace. Just take the case of the Internet or the so-called information superhighway. When you’re online, you can do so many things for free like send email, sms, pictures and videos to family and friends, download ringtones, music and even software.
Today, the best part of being on the Internet is the opportunity for people around the world to make voice calls from one PC to another wherever and whenever absolutely free of charge. All thanks to the VoIP (voice over internet protocol) technology which has caused the invention of amazing hardware and software that allow for fast and convenient communication across the globe.

All about Skype
Skype is one software that allows people to make free voice and even video calls to anybody who’s also using Skype. You can download it for free and it’s so easy to use. And not only that, the quality of the calls is crisp and clear. For people using web cameras, the video calls are very much possible. For those wishing to make calls to landlines and mobile phones, it can also be done although not for free but at very cheap per minute rates.
Compatibility with computers should not be a concern as Skype can operate on most kinds of PCs such as Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and Pocket PCs. And even though this software works on almost all kinds of computers, calls, chats and file transfers won’t be intercepted because Skype automatically encrypts them before passing to the internet. Skype is encrypted hence, security and privacy are guaranteed. So when Skype users connect over the internet, it is usually over encrypted session whether they are using text messages, audio, video or file transfers. With its encryption, the risk of call tapping and interception of files is greatly reduced. To be able to use Skype and all its other certified devices, you need to have an internet access. Dial-up connection will do but broadband is much better.
People making free Skype-to-Skype voice and video calls and sending instant messages every day are now in the millions. Being a quick and easy way to keep in touch online, who wouldn’t want to take advantage of this amazing software? Just to let you know, Skype has actually been downloaded over half a billion times and is now being used by more than 196 million people all over the globe.
The fact that the internet is used by millions of people every day for instant communication encourages Skype to do the best it can to serve its large volume of registered users notably in Europe. It is committed to provide free tools of communication for people at home, at work and on the go. What’s also praiseworthy is its effort to develop its over 50 hardware partners and over 160 Skype certified devices to be able to reach a broader base of users.
Great accessories
If you think that Skype is just limited to the software that allows you to make free calls over the internet, you are definitely wrong. Skype has certified products internet users can use to make the most out of their Skype experience. The accessories can be connected to the computer either by using cables or even without cables to enable you to make calls via Skype.
The plug-in headset is the simplest accessory of Skype that lets you make internet calls from your PC without using your hands.
The plug-in handset, on the other hand, lets you dial and receive Skype calls from your PC.
There is also the cordless headset that allows for a hands-free Skype call from your computer. And with the absence of wires, you are free to move around even while making a call.
If there’s a cordless headset, there’s also a cordless handset. This product lets you move freely while making and receiving Skype calls because of the absence of wires.
Skype has also its certified webcam for making free video calls from your PC to other Skype users. Skype-to-Skype video calls are absolutely free.
Another accessory worth using is the speakerphone because it lets you enjoy a hands-free or even group calls from your computer.
Finally, you can use the phone adaptor if you want to make all your calls from the same phone. The adaptor will connect your ordinary phone to your PC and will enable you to make calls when your computer is switched on.
New Mac OS X
Skype’s accessories are all wonderful but there’s more than just the hardware. Skype’s popular internet telephony software is constantly upgraded. In fact, there’s already a new version of its VoIP software for Mac users. The free software includes several new features such as call forwarding and auto-answer. iTunes will also pause automatically when a Skype call is answered. And for the first time, Mac OS X version 1.4 is available in Japanese.
This well-known freeware allows internet users to make free calls to other Skype members. The calls can be made through the built-in microphones on Mac as well as external but attached mics and new USB handsets that provide support for Skype. Hail to the Skype bosses who are bent on making voice calls over the internet the most natural and simple thing to do for people around the world regardless of the type of computer people they use.
The call forwarding feature of Mac OS X enables users to set up their own systems so they won’t be left behind whenever they have calls. Other functions include fast call set-up, emoticons and notifications of messages as well as whether people are online or offline.
A fantastic add-on to this software is the Mac OS X Skype Widget, a dashboard widget, that lets people make calls, search for country codes and check calling rates. Now this is total convenience when calling family and friends near or far.
With all these superb hardware and software which are truly Skype-certified, there’s no reason why you won’t choose Skype for your calling needs. What more can you ask for? You get great products at absolutely low prices and with unique features plus high quality to boot. Voice calls with clear audio quality with Skype are indeed here to stay.

The latest trend in VOIP today is Skype, a name which has now become a synonym for Internet telephony. For those who haven’t heard about Skype yet we would like to give a brief intro of this next generation telephony which is making headlines everyday.

Skype is a wireless calling providing software which lets you call anywhere in the world for free and sometime through credit points. Skype telephony is now famous in all over the world as it provides free connectivity between two different places. Skype is now almost ubiquitous in every country. This has made Internet telephony something beyond the computer.

The reason behind the rapid success of Skype can be the simplest way to use it. Here you don’t need to install any new software and there isn’t any fear of virus also. This system is same as any other messenger that you use everyday. All you need is to download the free Skype download which is easily available in the internet. You can download the Skype software from the main website and it takes just few minutes to download. Once the download is finish, Skype is ready for your use. And this gives you the freedom to call anywhere anytime and that’s also for free.

Skype has both free and paid services. The free service and the paid service both are equally popular. Skype has gained momentum in its popularity since its inception. The popular usage of Skype has made people more interested in this internet telephony. It’s not only about the telephony but Skype is famous for its features which gives the users a variety of options while talking. Some of the most notable features are the free voice, video conferencing, instant messaging and sending file options. Overall it can be said that Skype is a messenger with a crystal clear calling facility. Skype has another facility which attracts more users to log in to Skype. The reason is its ability to use peer to peer technology to take care of the normal firewall and networking problems. Not all had tried to make software which can make talking as popular as Skype did. So undoubtedly it was quite obvious for Skype to be popular among the users.

It’s not only about the calling facilities but Skype provides some hardware options for your system which makes it more desirable by the users. You get caller ID information is masked by the system when you make a Skype call from your PC or phone. This is a major difference between the Skype and VoIP clients. Skype operates in a new advanced model while the regular VoIPs still follow the traditional server-client model. You neither need a new set up to establish the Skype nor you need any costly centralized infrastructure to have Skype. If you have a regular internet connection then you can have access to Skype at anywhere, anytime. Hence Skype has taken a leap ahead of the regular internet telephony and is keeping up the pace to become the most sought after wireless calling provider.

Some of the basic characteristics of Skype are that it routes calls through Skype peers through the network to make the use of the software easier than the regular networking available. It can also make it easy to use the Symmetric NATs and firewalls, which gives a complete ease of use to the Skype users. But, this facility has its own problems. If you are connecting to the internet without NAT then it might happen that your computer and network bandwidth may be used to divert others user’s calls to your system.

Skype has a closed source code and the protocol used by the company is also not standardized. Skype is available and compatible with various operating systems. It’s specially designed for complete ease in every possible operating system. If you are a Windows user then you can have an interface which is developed in Pascal using Delphi and for Linux users it’s written in C++ with Qt. for all the Apple users the Mac OS X version is made in Objective-C with Cocoa. Many of the clients use a different version of programming which is called the Internet Direct; it’s an open source socket communication library.

Skype has undergone several changes in last few years. Skype was introduced with the Skype 3.0 Beta version, which was run on a Windows operating system. It’s seen that Skype accesses the hard disk numerous times in every minute which can be verified through observation of the hard disk drive’s activity LED. Skype provides various options for the users to make the usage more interesting. Skype also accepts thousands of connections but it’s said and believed that very soon Skype will limit itself to a certain amount for upload and download.

Talking about the security of this software, Skype claims to have the most contemporary security system. The proprietary session establishment protocol used by Skype is quite efficient and prevents any kind of insecurity or unwanted attacks. Skype software is not self certifying which needs to connect through certain login provided by Skype for the users. This provides the information access to the users.

Presently Skype provides multiple concurrent logins to users. But this can easily be accessed by any attacker. If any attacker finds out your login password, then the attacker can easily log in the account and change the status to hidden which enables the attacker to check all the information and chats performed by the user.
Being calling software Skype is a boon for long distance callers. You get free services and which are paid; they also charge you a less amount. So, it’s quite obvious that you need to be more particular while using this software. Moreover, Skype is a complete revolution in VoIP telephony.

Wi-Fi Telephony

Wi-Fi telephony is gradually picking the momentum in businesses. Now people are giving it more space than ever before. It isn’t long since this concept came to market. It was first introduces in the year 1999. More and more Wi-Fi enabled devices are now available in the market which is creating frenzy around the users of Wi-Fi mobile enterprise telephony. This concept brought with it a lot of new promises like how these devices can drive company users to get into the corporate Wi-Fi network. This system has numerous advantages including the high cost savings and several other features which are provided by the integration with the business IP system telephony. Wi-Fi telephony is now the most talked telephonic system. A research shows a growth rate of nearly 200 percent in coming five years. But, the Wi-Fi telephony is not yet a runner in the mainstream and it needs a lot of effort to bring Wi-Fi to the mainstream. There are various challenges in making a complete Wi-Fi telephony system. The most important are the voice quality and functionality. If you are an IT manager then your Wi-Fi telephony should be reliable, scalable, interoperable and secure.

If you are planning to have a Wi-Fi telephony system in the company then you need to check the above details first that your telephony should be reliable and secure. Once you deploy the Wi-Fi telephony in your enterprise then you save a lot of expenditure and this can help you get connected quite easily. Hence, you need to be extra cautious while choosing your Wi-Fi connection and the telephony system.

Enterprise Wi-Fi network technology has seen lot of changes in past few years and it still needs to implement a lot of changes. There should be some upgraded voice applications which should be considered before trying the Wi-Fi telephony. The challenges of Wi-Fi telephony should be tackled in both the network terminal ends of the application. Wi-Fi telephony are visible for quite some time but there use is concentrated in some particular industries like healthcare, retail stores and manufacturing plants. With the advent of the latest Wi-Fi enabled phoning devices like the smartphones and PDAs many people opt for these devices rather than a total Wi-Fi telephony networking.

Network Challenges

Today the VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) telephony is becoming quite famous. This IP phoning is gradually becoming the main stream phoning service because of its cost effectiveness and fast reach. The quality and the services both are quite good in these services. If you have a well designed IP network then it can easily support your voice applications. These networks are secure, quality driven and reliable. The voice quality of these phones is certainly infallible. These VoIPs are a challenge to the Wi-Fi telephony system. There are various issues involved in a Wi-Fi networking. Sometimes you get lower band width in your Wi-Fi networking than the general wired networking. Another aspect is the mobility factor as the mobility of the Wi-Fi can be sometimes little complicated.

With the regular wired IP telephony, bandwidth is not at an issue as every enterprise networks have at least 10 Mbps of dedicated bandwidth in their standardized on switched Ethernet. This much bandwidth is more than enough for a single telephone set. But, in Wi-Fi connection, your single connection is shared by various wireless users through an access point. Your Wi-Fi access points can operate in a minimum 1 Mbps data rate and the standard designing of any enterprise is between 11 and 54 Mbps. This data rate is quite, for that mater, more than required for an enterprise.

Roaming is the most significant variation between the wired IP telephony and the Wi-Fi telephony. If you will have Wi-Fi then you are free to roam. It gives you the freedom to roam during your call. But for normal wired telephony, which is fixed lines, roaming is not an issue at all. The Wi-Fi users need to be extra cautious while maintaining a telephone call. Wired connections are fixed so there is a minimal chance of the connection failure but in case of Wi-Fi, this becomes a vital issue. If you are having a Wi-Fi connection then it might sometimes irritate you with the disturbances.

Wi-Fi systems need to overcome a lot of network challenges. We are still not sure whether Wi-Fi networks can support the voice applications as infallibly as the VoIPs. One needs to have a better voice-optimization for better wireless network telephony. You need to have a right equipment and implementation to have a well-established Wi-Fi telephony. Today you can see various Wi-Fi devices in the market and for large enterprises a lot of new equipments are being designed everyday. More vendors are now busy in various innovations to bring products which are designed for infallible telephony applications. So, it is not quite early say that in near future enterprise Wi-Fi deployments will be designed as voice ready devices.

Device Challenges

Having a good networking doesn’t entitle you a smooth and undisturbed service. This can be called the first half of the story and the second and final part is the device. It is like the vehicle and road. If you have a good vehicle but a poor road then you will have problem driving and vice versa. You need to have a Wi-Fi device which should support your Wi-Fi telephony system. You need to see various aspects of devices before choosing for your Wi-Fi telephony. First is the voice quality of the device. It should have various functionalities. I have seen the Wi-Fi affecting the battery life of the device; hence you should make sure that your device has a better battery life. Wi-Fi gives you the freedom of roaming hence you should choose a handset which has a good size and weight so that it would be easy for your to use it.

There are various challenges which involve your Wi-Fi telephony connection. But, you need to find out the exact solutions for every challenge. Once you get the right designed connection you can use the freedom of Wi-Fi telephony.

Selecting a Wi-Fi Antenna for you

You have a Wi-Fi system which works as you desire but still you feel like having little more range for your Wi-Fi. What will you do? Change your Wi-Fi or try to search an alternative solution? I think searching an alternative solution is a good idea. So, here you can use an antenna for extending the range of your Wi-Fi. The most important thing is choosing an antenna for increasing the range of your Wi-Fi. But, there are various antennas available in market you need to choose the most suitable antenna as per your requirements. You might feel this is the most complex work to do, to choose an appropriate antenna. We will make this much easy for you. In this article you can get every trifling detail about the Wi-Fi antenna.

We will start with a little discussion about this Wi-Fi antenna. You all know that Wi-Fi is like the radio which is used for computers. You can install an external antenna to increase the range of your Wi-Fi. You can consider this antenna as the speaker system of your Wi-Fi card. It works with the simple rule, the bigger the better. If you use bigger antenna you get better Wi-Fi range.

Directional Antennas

Directional antennas are widely used for point-to-point and often for Multi-Point systems. This antenna depends on the setup of the connection. This antenna is apt for those who shift from one location to another. This antenna can provide you better range between two points. Directional antennas are Backfires, Yagi, Panel and dish antennas.

Base Antenna

The base antennas are the omni directional antennas. These are used for point-to-multi-point systems. This is a dedicated antenna which distributes signal to other computers. You can connect multiple devices through your omni directional antenna. It’s not all about computers but you can connect your printers and other devices like PDAs can be connected through this antenna. Some of the typical omni directional antennas are Vertical Omnis, Small Desktops, Ceiling Domes, Mobile vertical and Rubber duck antennas.

Point-to-Point

Point-to-Point usually involves two different points in a wireless connection. This is basically the sharing between the two points, which can be a house, building or anything. But, here involves an exception. If the Wi-Fi owner wants to send the signal to a distant location where there are multiple systems then it will use a directional antenna to send point-to-multi-point connection. Here the sender system has to be sharp and should be using a directional antenna. These antennas help in distributing point-to-multi-point wireless signal.

Point to Multi-Point

Point to Multi-Point is the most commonly used Wi-Fi sharing. You can find this is your office, home and various places. This system is usually to share the WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) or Internet Connection. You can also share WAP (Wireless Access Point) through this. WAP is now seen in many airports, coffee shops and stations. Now getting a WAP connection isn’t difficult at all, as you can find them in many places. WAP gives you the freedom to access Internet anywhere. All you need is a Notebook and you are easily connected with the rest of the world.

Range

Range is the most vital part of any wireless signal. Your range of the signal depends on various factors like the power output of your wireless card or router, the receive strength of the wireless card. Many a times the things which fall between the paths of the wireless connection also lower the range of the signal. These are basically the buildings, trees and other hindrances. Believe me there are numerous factors which influence the range of your wireless connection so discussing it without the proper description of the area is little difficult. Hence, always prefer an antenna which is more powerful and which will be able to catch even minimal signals.

Most of the times we are asked to suggest the best Wi-Fi antenna, but suggesting this can be an easy task if we know exactly for what purpose you want else it’s quite difficult to tell about any particular antenna. If you have a strong signal with less noise then your wireless card can perform infallibly with an antenna else a good antenna can also show poor performance. We will now discuss some of the important directional antennas which we had mentioned earlier.

Home Antenna

Home antennas are most easily available antennas. These are cheap, easy to install and widely used. In most cases you need a single antenna for the connection. You should check the connection using a single antenna. This can give you an idea of the signal strength and range.

Office

Offices involve big networks hence the antenna used in office should have strength to support the systems. If you want a wireless office then you need to have a strong wireless card and install the wireless router software and connect the router with your connection. But, this can be little difficult for huge offices with multi storey buildings.

Mobile Wi-Fi Antenna

This is a boon for frequent travelers. You can have a mobile Wi-Fi antenna in your car to access Internet at any place. Now that most of the gas stations and truck-stops are fully Wi-Fi enabled, how can you stay behind?

Yagi Antenna

This is basically a radio antenna which is very directional and is mostly used for extending the range to multi-point system. The best part of these antennas is there signal strength, if you have these antennas in a perfect set up then they can send signal to larger distances.

With the advent of Internet more and more people tried to have this connectivity easily available. And the invention of wireless computer networking gave wings to these people’s desire. Now they have a system through which they can access Internet easily and rapidly. It is a fact that wireless networking led many people to search for methods to share the Internet connectivity. Wireless computer networking can be used both in good and bad way, let’s talk about the worse first. Many users knowingly sat up unsecured access points for network, through which they can easily access the Internet without even the consent of the owner. But, this is definitely a mischief. There are other ways also through which you can easily access the Internet through a wireless computer networking. We will further discuss those ways which can be applied to access safe and fast Internet from a wireless computer networking.

What I can suggest, the safest way to share is to use a totally separate wireless access point which will be just for sharing. Then you should put it on a separate subnet. You can throttle the bandwidth to thwart hogs from getting into your connection. For better and sharp results you can simply throw that in a DHCP server. There isn’t any harm in having a safe connection. Hence, you need to be extra cautious in keeping your connection. There is another important safety click that is hidden in your system that is the Firewall. Use Firewall to prevent your connection from all the unwanted freeloader connections. Now you can also get some cheap routers which can help you detect and protect the signals.

Wireless Network

If you can share a bandwidth signal then it’s certainly not a bad thing. Wi-Fi is freely available for your use and if you utilize it then there isn’t any harm in it. But, if you are among those people then it’s better for you to toggle your brain to get some better strategies to make it better. This gave birth to the ideas like OLSR, the Optimized Link State Routing protocol. OLSR is an efficient protocol that easily searches other wireless networks and sets the routing table automatically and in this way creates a mobile network. This is a most widely used protocol trusted by many users. This tiny protocol works diligently for your CPU cycles. There are various such protocols which you would have heard or come across. Freifunk Firmware is another embedded router which works in various systems. This works like various similar routers which we had talked in about introduction paragraphs. This router provides the most easy user experience. This router is user friendly and gives maximum ease of use. But, if you have a Linux OS which is designed for the WRT54G-type wireless routers, then you should include something like the OLSR. Here we are talking about the wireless network which is mostly useful in places which have community wireless projects. These community wireless projects are any time better than the Municipal wireless projects. Believe me Municipal wireless projects are only good on paper; they are not mesh but a perfect mess. And this creates problems for the Wi-Fi also as there come a lot of obstacles to run a Wi-Fi. Even if you have a plain area there will be lots of trees, hills so even if you have a repeater in every block your connection will be disturbed by these obstacles. Not only these obstacles are a problem for a Wi-Fi but you also come across interferences and reflections between your signals. It’s really difficult to have an undisturbed signal in this scenario.

Hence, there are still remains some space for the grassroots efforts to have a sharing bandwidth. It’s not that you always need a lot of money to get this kind of connection but there are also many cheap tools which can provide you similar results. One of them is the Meraki repeaters; these are the cheap little repeaters which are nothing but plug-n-play devices. Many users who use Meraki say that these repeaters can be used in a multiple form. All you need to connect one repeater with your Internet and the rest of them will work flawlessly as simple repeaters. These repeaters are available as indoor and outdoor repeaters. Through Meraki you can monitor your network, as this repeater provides a Web-based Dashboard which helps you in monitoring the network. This repeater has another unique quality as it includes the billing software also. The Dashboard is hosted by the Miraki on its server. This gives you an opportunity to charge or make it free. It will work free for free networks and will charge some percentage if you are charging for your services.

Using a WISP

There are various WirelessISPs(WISP) which provide you better solution for your connection. It’s very difficult to decide a single WISP for all the systems as the connections are quite different. If you have a reliable DSL then you can have better service but if you have hanged up with those age old dial ups then you might suffer a hard time because of it. Now is the question of choosing a gear. You can easily get a high powered wireless gear for your required strength. One of those gears is the Ubiquiti wireless gears. These high powered wireless interfaces are based on Atheros radios. And the most pleasing part is these gears are fully compatible with Linux because of the MadWiFi driver project. For this you can get a wireless adapter purchased separately and you can build stout boxes or you can also get a separate access point. These all come with firmware which are friendly to install your own firmware.

Know Your Wi-Fi

You must have heard about Wi-Fi and if I am correct then, you must be asking why on earth I am asking this question. Believe me my intention is not to test your knowledge neither to check your IQ. But, this is a fact that many a times we use certain devices, products and words just because we know how to use it and we don’t even try to understand how this little device helps us. Again, what is the need to understand if something is working well then its well for you? Is this what you are thinking then think again? Then it’s time for you’re to think again over it because all electronic devices are not always that obedient and you might need to check them time to time and here nothing but your knowledge matters. And as you have come to this site, it shows you are interested in knowing about this particular magical device. So, now we will talk about the device called Wi-Fi, a device which always made your life easy. This is the device which is responsible for giving you a complete wireless experience. Let’s start with the basics of this intelligent device which is both efficient and effective.

If you have visited a coffee shop, airport or a hotel recently then you are in the network of an invisible connection. This is the Wi-Fi networking. Today, many people use wireless networking which is also called Wi-Fi or 802.11 networking. Wi-Fi connection helps you connect to the Internet without any wire. Now most of the campuses, universities are becoming fully Wi-Fi enabled where the students can access the Internet anywhere within the campus. Wi-Fi is also visible in homes and many cities are also having Wi-Fi networking to provide cheap and wireless Internet connection. Wireless networking is now spreading its wing to all kind of sectors. Whether it’s a small coffee house or a big enterprise, you can easily get a Wi-Fi connection in all these places. I feel it is not early to say that these wireless connections will soon be so widespread that one can browse the Internet at anytime and anyplace without using any wire.

These Wi-Fi connections are quite beneficial as these are inexpensive and are quite easy to install. Wi-Fi is an invisible form of connection. It’s really difficult to find which place has a Wi-Fi connection unless you start your laptop. Wi-Fi connections are gradually becoming ubiquitous now. In this article we will further look into the deeper mechanism of the Wi-Fi and the basic structure of the Wi-Fi.

The System

Let us start with the few basics of the Wi-Fi connection. Wi-Fi works in the same pattern and system like the cell phones, televisions and radio. Wi-Fi uses simple radio waves to communicate across the wireless network. It uses a two-way radio communication. You need to have a wireless adapter and an antenna to create a wireless connection. The computer adapter translates the data into the radio signal and after this the signal is transmitted through the antenna. Then this signal travels through the wireless router and it decodes the signal. Then the information is sent to the Internet using a wired Ethernet connection. This is a two way process which works similarly in reverse where the router receives information from the Internet, translates it into a radio signal and then send it to the computers’ wireless adapter.

Wi-Fi uses the same radios for communication as the radios used for general cell phones. These devices are similar to others which transmit and receive radio waves. But there are few differences between the radio transmitter and the Wi-Fi networking. Wi-Fi networking uses more frequency than the cell phone or the radio. This helps in making better data transfer. Wi-Fi is not limited to any particular device rather you can use multiple devices in your Wi-Fi networking. But, in case of radio you are limited to a certain device use.

Networking

The biggest advantage of a Wi-Fi is the ability to free access the Internet. You can use public Wi-Fi hotspots to take advantage of free Internet. You can also set a wireless networking in your home. The foremost thing you need to have is the appropriate wireless gear. Most of the notebook manufacturers are now making laptops with built in wireless transmitter. But, if you don’t have a built in wireless transmitter you can get a wireless adapter which can be plugged in your laptop or PC. You desktop computer can use the USB adapter or you can even have a plug in adapter plugged in your PCI slot inside your desktop case. These adapters often use multiple 802.11 standards.

After the initial installation of your wireless adapter and the drivers for operation you need to check the correctness of your networking. Check whether your computer is showing the activation of a wireless connection or not. Once your computer discovers the existing networks then you can be sure that it has been connected. This means that whenever your computer will be in a Wi-Fi hotspot it will automatically catch the signal. When you will bring the PC or laptop in a Wi-Fi networking, it will automatically detect the network and ask you whether you want to connect to the wireless network or not. All the latest computers are now having the latest version of the wireless connection software and if you have an older computer then you need to install wireless connection installation software to connect to a wireless network.

This is the general summery of the Wi-Fi connection. Wi-Fi networking provides you impeccable Internet connectivity without the hassle of any wiring and this is the best part of this technology. If you have a laptop or computer which is Wi-Fi enabled then believe me you have the freedom to get connected at anytime and anyplace only one clause is there and that is the place should be Wi-Fi enabled, now that’s what I call freedom

With the vocal complaints of a large number of Skype users now reaching fever pitch, Danny Wirken summarises the latest offering from problem-ridden Skype – talking to yourself.
Not so long ago I could rely on Skype giving me a great connection. I used her for all my internet calling needs even when I discovered you could get far cheaper calls from other VoIP providers. Alright I’ll admit it – I just plain liked Skype.
Yet despite my affection for this upstart company who blasted onto the internet scene late 2003 with their beta offering, I find myself slowly agreeing with those who are packing up their Skype lives and moving to a different internet telephony service. But what is forcing them to change?
“When I use Skype to call my friend I can’t hear anything they say – even though they can hear me! It’s just like talking to yourself..”
Aside from having to wait several days to get your account credited – even when they already took the money off your card – the major gripe echoing forth from the internet communities once so devoted and loyal to the Skype and SkypeOut life is one of fundamental importance. The Skype connections just don’t work well.

Some analysts say that Skype has moved too quickly and is simply the victim of its own success. Others still claim that desires to keep costs down have forced them into a tight corner with regards to customer service and technology.
Customers are now complaining that Skype calls frequently experience a two second time delay between people speaking and listening. This can result in confused and frustrating conversations in which one must wait seconds before speaking to ensure the other person has finished what they are saying. Not being able to hear in ‘real time’ somewhat obviates the entire service.
Others still complain that the Skype calls just aren’t going through at all:
“My Skype calls don’t go through often, and if they do then you just don’t hear the other person even though they can hear me just fine. I don’t get it and I’ve had enough.”
Fears over the recent downturn in service from Skype were confirmed recently by yet another week of disruptions to calls to USA based numbers. For many customers this was a final straw, as being able to get cheaper calls to US phones was their main reason for investing in the service to begin with.
Skype replied with an attempt to reassure their growing customer base. They claim to make regular checks on all call performance related technologies across their global network and continually seek to enhance the performance of their connections. A spokeswoman for Skype commented that: “As our growth does indicate, we have a larger number of satisfied customers.” Yet this is perhaps optimistic, for it is not the gaining of new customers that Skype needs to concern itself with – there is no doubt that the grassroots marketing they have employed is doing a fantastic job. Customer retention, however, may yet be a bigger battle.
