Chances are, you know what VoIP is. You’re reading this blog, and so you’re either someone searching for VoIP reviews, stories and discussions, or would like to learn more about this wonderful new technology that can make lives easier (and less expensive).

Sadly, not everyone has warmed up to the idea of calling over alternate routes. Many still stick to their traditional phones even when calling abroad. Some aren’t even aware you could place calls over the Internet!

I guess some people are not as open to new ideas as others. But give it a few years’ time and the “new ideas” we have now would already be the norm. I’d like to think of VoIP as the future of telephony. Pretty soon, all the phone calls we make would be routed through the Internet instead of the usual telephone exchange. It’s cheaper for the telecom companies to do this rather than having to rely on expensive international gateway facilities and laying out lines and network equipment around their areas of coverage. Majority of Internet subscribers nowadays are on broadband, anyway, and signing them up for VoIP is the next logical step.
