Go retro with the D-Link telephone-Skype adapter

January 28th, 2006 · No Comments

D-Link USB PhoneAre you feeling retro? Are you up-to-date on your tech stuff, but still can’t let go of old school technology? Well, then the D-Link DPH-50U Skype USB Phone Adapter may just be the gadget for you.

The adapter connects any regular telephone for use with Skype. You can use a regular corded telephone, or even a wireless phone to make and receive Skype calls. What’s great is that if you plug the adapter into a regular phone jack, your phone can be used simultaneously or alternately across Skype and the POTS (that’s plain old telephone system for those unaware). So with the D-Link adapter, you can pick up your phone and choose to dial using the regular phone line or Skype.

What’s even better is that you can use the adapter’s remote calling feature to forward any incoming Skype calls to any destination, such as a regular phone line or mobile phone. It even works the other way around—you can also use the adapter as a toll bypass device when you want to call international but want to avoid the costly direct dialing rates. For instance, you can dial into the adapter from a remote location (i.e. your mobile phone), and it will let you dial out using Skype.
