Apple planning a VoIP iPod?

February 26th, 2006 · No Comments

Straight from the rumour mill: is it possible that the next cool Apple product is a VoIP iPod? Well, Apple isn’t known to announce its latest product offerings early—it chooses specific times in a year to make announcements, such as during MacWorld expos and Worldwide Developer Conferences. And its CEO Steve Jobs is known to give out vague statements about “fun” and “cool” products prior to announcement, without really giving any details until the last minute.

However, there are a good number of apple rumour sites that churn out the buzz on every possible future Apple offering. Sometimes, the rumours ring true. Consider how the Intel-based Mac became a reality, and how the iPod video came into existence. They were first “leaked” as rumours, while in development stages.

Now there are rumours that the next generation iPods will have WiFi. Going further, these iPods are said to likely have VoIP capabilities. How cool is that? The device that popularised mobile multimedia might just be the magic bullet that will also bring VoIP into the hands (or pockets) of everyone!

It would look a little weird-putting up your music player against your cheek to make a call. But as with all other Apple products, we can count on this one having a great “cool factor.”
